GRATITUDE AND COMMUNITY IN THE SEASON OF GIVING
With the season of giving upon us, we’re deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity of our community members. Your support brings hope and resilience to neighbors facing challenging times. Now more than ever, amidst rising rents, increased costs for essentials, and limited access to critical resources, it’s clear that we must come together to bolster one another - especially the most vulnerable among us.
Thanks to your generous contributions of clothing, funding, and volunteer time, this year we have already reached nearly 500 neighbors with carefully-selected clothing bundles and distributed close to 4,000 pairs of new socks and underwear. Together, we’re providing a safety net for folks who are navigating difficult transitions.
Every coat you donate keeps someone warm. Every pair of shoes helps someone move forward. Every accessory boosts someone’s confidence. Our work goes beyond simply delivering apparel - it empowers people, helping them feel prepared and confident for housing and job interviews, workplaces, and the pursuit of their goals and wellbeing.
We’re excited to share some of the accomplishments we’ve achieved together in our
Fall 2024 Community Report. This report highlights the inspiring stories and positive impacts your contributions make possible. |

HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS MONTH
November is Homelessness Awareness Month - a time to reflect upon the challenges that too many of our neighbors face every day. Did you know that Greater Boston has an estimated 801 unhoused individuals per 100,000 residents? The numbers serve as a reminder that homelessness remains a pressing issue throughout our community. For further insights, read Boston Indicators' latest report on homelessness and housing in Greater Boston (here).
Second Chances is committed to supporting individuals experiencing housing instability and crisis through partnerships with 25+ local shelters and service providers. Through these collaborations, we provide free, empowering clothing to individuals supported by dedicated advocates, social workers, and shelter managers throughout our community.
These partnerships make a tremendous difference for those facing poverty, crisis, and housing challenges. Together, we’re empowering community members like Alex (quoted above) to take their first steps toward a brighter future - helping them feel confident, valued, and ready to pursue their goals.
