Second Chances - clothing connecting community
Second Chances - clothing connecting community

July is a time to celebrate community, generosity, and the power of coming together to make a difference. In this month's newsletter, we're excited to welcome a new veteran-serving partner. We'll also share a simple way to support Second Chances while you shop and promote National Give Something Away Day. Together, we can offer comfort, confidence, and dignity to neighbors facing homelessness, poverty, and other hardships.

WELCOME MASSACHUSETTS BAY VETERANS CENTER (MBVC)

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country and the freedoms we enjoy, we also take time to honor the veterans whose service has helped protect them. At Second Chances, we're always grateful for the opportunity to support those who have served our country.

Earlier this year we welcomed Volunteers of America’s Somerville program, the Mass Bay Veterans Center, as a new Second Chances partner. This program features 24 transitional units and seven permanent housing units as well as an array of services to support veterans. We are excited to provide residents and program participants with clothing, shoes, socks, and underwear for work, everyday living, and special occasions, and look forward to meeting their team and touring the program later this month.

THERE'S STILL TIME TO EMBRACE AND EMPOWER OUR NEIGHBORS

Second Chances has been part of our community's safety net for 21 years. When you donate funds to Second Chances, your gift goes to work immediately - supporting a neighbor who needs clothing, often the same week.

Our team is small, with one full-time and two part-time staff members supporting the clients of 30 local organizations. Our relationships and efficiencies mean your gift goes straight to getting clothing to people who need it.

Your $50 gift can clothe someone for a housing interview by Tuesday. Not next month - next week. And that makes all the difference in the world to someone who's struggling.

THANK YOU for working with Second Chances as part of our community's safety net. We truly couldn't do it without you.

Stop & Shop Community Bag Program

SUPPORT SECOND CHANCES WHILE YOU SHOP IN JULY

We're grateful to Stop & Shop for selecting Second Chances as July’s partner for the Community Bag Program at the store at 305 Guest Street, Allston.

Throughout the month of July, every $2.50 reusable Community Bag you purchase at this location will result in a $1 donation to Second Chances. It's an easy way to support our mission of providing free, confidence building clothing to individuals and families facing homelessness, poverty, and other hardships.

So, if you're shopping at the Allston Stop & Shop this month, be sure to pick up a Community Bag at checkout. Every bag purchased helps Second Chances provide clothing, confidence, and hope to neighbors in need - one bag at a time!

THANK YOU to the Allston Stop & Shop and participating customers!

National Give Something Away Day

JULY 15TH IS NATIONAL GIVE SOMETHING AWAY DAY

Next Wednesday is a national day highlighting how a simple act of giving can make a big difference.

A coat you no longer wear, a pair of shoes sitting in the closet, or clothing your family has outgrown can become a source of confidence, comfort, and belonging for someone in need.

At Second Chances, your donated clothing supports neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, and other challenges.

Looking for a way to celebrate National Give Something Away Day? Clean out your closets and drawers, gather wearable items you no longer need, and donate them to help someone start a new chapter.
