Cooler Weather Means Greater Need

As fall arrives and school gets underway, requests for warm clothing and shoes are already coming in from our partners. Many neighbors will count on Second Chances and our community this season—and you can help.

If you’d like to host a clothing drive this fall or winter, please reach out as soon as you have target dates in mind. We’ll make it easy with:

  • Marketing toolkit – personalized webpage and posters you can share internally or publicly - and, if you’d like, we can help with marketing if your clothing drive is open to the public.
  • Pickup service – with advance notice, we can often offer pickups for large drives at businesses, organizations, or large residential developments in our service area.

Hosting a clothing drive is a meaningful way to engage your congregation, workplace, residential building, or organization while making a direct difference for folks in our community who are experiencing challenges by clicking the button below.

Help Keep Our Bins Clutter-Free

August and September are some of Second Chances' busiest donation months. With seasonal closet clean-outs and residential moves, it’s extra important to keep our collection areas safe and tidy so we can maintain positive relationships with our generous bin hosts and our broader community.

Please:

  • Place items inside bins only – never outside;
  • Use small or medium bags (no hangers, large bags, or boxes);
  • Keep personal items like keys and phones out of the bins by being very mindful of where you place them;
  • If a bin is full, return later or visit another location.

We accept women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, shoes, and accessories in good or better wearable condition.

Prefer to give another way? Donate funds online or mail a check separately.

Donor Spotlight: Thank You, Wayne!

This month we’re celebrating Wayne Terrio, a cherished volunteer, donor, partner, and all-around community champion.

Wayne, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker’s Cambridge office, has:

  • Co-hosted Coldwell Banker Cambridge’s Annual Earth Day Public Clothing Drive with colleague Winnie Lee;
  • Served on our 20th Anniversary Event Planning Committee;
  • And, here he is, donating clothing at one of our donation bins on the Tufts University campus.

When asked why he supports Second Chances, Wayne said:

“I enjoy volunteering for and donating to Second Chances because... it's sooo much fun! The staff is resourceful and knows how to direct the organization's limited budget to reach and serve people in desperate need, which is more important now than it's ever been.”

Wayne’s dedication, generosity, and enthusiasm have strengthened our work and supported our neighbors in countless ways. Thank you, Wayne!

For 20 years, Second Chances, alongside generous donors and compassionate community partners, has removed barriers to success, empowered communities, and protected the planet - one piece of clothing at a time. Our two decades of good work pave the way for even greater impact, keeping clothing in circulation and continuing to support our neighbors.
