Second Chances - Clothing connecting community

Thank you to everyone who supported our community with a financial contribution this spring! With your help, we rose to the challenge, maximizing Arbella Insurance Foundation's generous matching grant. Your donations - totaling more than $23,000 - made it possible for Second Chances to access $10,000 in matching funds from the generous and community-minded folks at Arbella Insurance Foundation.

You can still help deliver free clothing and support our neighbors. Visit our website to donate or learn more.

Clothing Needs

Second Chances is on track to serve 77% more people this year than last year, and we need your help to stock our clothing supply.

You can directly support neighbors in need by purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist. Apparel like sweatpants, leggings, and basic t-shirts are in high demand year-round and we often don't get enough of these items in good quality through clothing drives and our donation bins.

You can also host a virtual clothing drive by sharing our Amazon Wishlist and encouraging your social media and other networks and communities to donate.

Another way you can help folks in our community is by hosting an in-person clothing drive. Summer can be a slow time for clothing donations, so it's a great time to coordinate a clothing drive to support our clients.

Learn more and please get in touch if you're interested in hosting a summer clothing drive.

The Power of Clothing

We were overjoyed to hear from our partners at Vinfen about their clients' experiences with clothing from Second Chances. It's important to remember and share the human stories fueling our commitment to this work.

"I work at a community-based mental health agency in Cambridge/Somerville. We serve low-income individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness and support people as they integrate back into the community.

Several of the folks I work with who received clothing from Second Chances have been able to make great strides in their recovery:

One individual wore the clothing to housing interviews and to fill out housing applications. She is now happily in her own apartment, working to send money to her family in Haiti.

Another person who comes to mind is someone who received gender-affirming clothes from Second Chances, and the look of excitement on their face when they tried them on was absolutely incredible!

Because the folks we serve have limited incomes, finances are often a barrier to getting the clothes they need to access housing, employment, and other meaningful activities. Second Chances gives our clients a chance to live out their fullest dreams and do it in comfort and style!"

Thank you for helping Second Chances to improve the wellbeing of hundreds of people experiencing poverty, housing instability, health issues, and other challenges each year. We couldn't do it without compassionate and generous community members like you!
